How Khata actually works
Manual entry, on purpose
Khata never connects to your bank account. You add every transaction yourself. This is slower than automatic bank-sync apps, but it means your financial data isn't shared with a third-party sync provider, and it's why Khata can be a one-time purchase instead of a subscription.
Everything is stored on your device
Your transactions and budgets are saved in your browser's local storage, not on a server. That means your data stays private by default — but it also means it's tied to that one browser. Clearing your browser data or switching devices starts a fresh ledger.
How the free trial works
You can try every feature — including Islamic mode and the Zakat calculator — for free, capped at 15 transactions. There's no time limit and no card required. Being upfront: the cap is enforced in your browser, not by a server, so it works the same honest-system way as most small independent software trials. Your trial data carries over automatically if you later buy a license.
How the license works
Khata is unlocked with an access code we send you on WhatsApp after manually confirming your EasyPaisa, JazzCash, or bank transfer payment. This is checked entirely in your browser — only a scrambled (hashed) version of valid codes exists in the site's code, so the actual codes can't be read from page source. Being upfront: a code isn't locked to one specific device, the same way many small independent software licenses work.
What Standard vs. Islamic mode actually changes
Both modes use the same zero-based budgeting underneath. Switching to Islamic mode reveals the Zakat calculator on your dashboard. It doesn't change your data — it changes what's shown and calculated.
How the Zakat estimate is calculated
The calculator uses the standard formula: 2.5% of net zakatable wealth (cash, savings, and investments, minus short-term debts), only if that net wealth is at or above the Nisab threshold. You choose whether Nisab is based on the gold standard (87.48g) or the silver standard (612.36g), and enter the current price yourself — Khata doesn't fetch live gold/silver prices.
This is a general estimate, not a religious ruling. Zakat has situational details — business assets, agricultural produce, differing scholarly opinions — that a simple calculator can't fully capture. For your specific circumstances, please confirm with a qualified local scholar.
